It is officially the holidays, and that means a cocktail soiree or two or three…
Let’s face it, some of us prepped months in advance for this, and some of us are still in shock it’s December.
Whatever the case may be, I’m here to help get you holiday fabulous, without breaking the bank.
Here are 7 ways to get holiday party ready on a budget
1.Get your faux on
Faux fur is a big look this season, and just this one piece can upscale your entire ensemble.
You may already have a coat or two in your closet from seasons past, don’t forget you can always dress them up by adding brooches and pins.
Bold and bright colored faux fur jackets are super hot right now, and If you have an existing coat and feel adventurous, you can even dye it a custom color yourself!

Here are some of my favorite faux fur coats this season:
2. Shine bright like a diamond
All things shiny are IN right now.
Here’s a little tip: you can actually purchase sequins and beaded trims at your local arts and crafts stores or online, and then add them to select pieces of your wardrobe.
Perhaps you have a little black dress that you love, but want to jazz up the neckline , or a blazer that needs a little glitz on the cuffs. The beauty of this is that if you tack carefully, you can remove the trim after, and voila: two looks in one.
Here are some of my favorite sequin looks:
3. Velvet
From Keira Knightley to Nicole Kidman, we’ve seen some of Hollywood’s biggest names don this luxury fabric the past few months.
Velvet oozes a sophisticated and regal allure, and lucky for us it’s en Vogue.
The key here is to pick a complementary hue , and something you plan to wear more than once.
Here are some stunning velvet looks for less:
4. Shoulder your way in
With The 80’s influence on fashion this year, defined shoulders are making a resurgence, and when tastefully done, a little padding in the shoulders can actually compliment and elongate the body.
Shoulder pads allow things that don’t quite fit to look right . You can also pick up shoulder pads at your local fabric or craft store and sew or tack them in to existing jackets, tops and dresses.
The key here is a little: too much of a good thing can overdo it, and we are going for chic, not football player.
I love these looks below for a little shoulder lift:
5. Cropped Sweaters
I always say the best thing anyone can have in their closet is a good tailor.
Dig out those sweaters you have not worn in a while, and find a good local tailor to
take them up, and in if you need. If you are looking to buy something new,
here are some of my picks:
6. Get the new length
There are a few lengths that are in this holiday, one being the mini 60’s inspired length.
Again, making nice with a great local tailor can save you mega bucks and help morph existing dresses and skirts into this new hot length.
You can even ask them to “tack it” in case you would like to return to the original length after the season is over.
Hemming tape is also another great hack you can do at home for quick shortening.
Here are some great and reasonable Minis:
7. When in doubt, accessorize
The right statement piece can dress up an entire look. When you are looking to
freshen up your wardrobe, purchase some of the latest accessories. You can look
on trend and no one knows the wiser.
Here are some examples:
Whatever you choose to don this joyous season, remember the most important thing any woman can wear is confidence.
Have a wonderful holiday!
